Thinking about changing or joining a Direct
Sales, MLM or Network Marketing Company?
STOP!
This site will not recommend any specific company, but is written by someone who has 31 years of proven success in this industry. My mission is to increase the odds of you choosing the company that will help you achieve your dreams.
This is a serious business and should not be treated as a hobby.
If done correctly, you can set yourself free financially with the right MLM.
You MUST be able to decipher which company will be the best for you.
95%+ of all start up MLM’s fail in the first 2 years!
Would you take investment advice from your broke neighbor?
This will be YOUR company and YOU will be the CEO. Choose your supplier wisely!
The facts are that you can be successful in MLM, network marketing, referral marketing or whatever your company wants to call Multi Level Marketing IF you make the right choices up front. Almost all start up MLM companies will be out of business in 24 months.
The odds of you choosing the right one are about 1 in 100, and becoming successful at it with your first attempt are almost infinitesimal. As a beginner, you might as well throw a dart at the stock section of the Wall Street Journal and invest. If I’m playing those odds, then just give me 19 RED and spin the wheel. I want to help you change those odds.
That is the purpose of this website. To increase those odds tremendously. To provide information that can turn heartbreak and financial loss into years of successful business and relationship building, turning frustration into satisfaction. With over 31 years of industry experience on both the corporate side of MLM and as a successful representative, this is my goal. I have watched too many people, hard working sincere, integrity based people put their hopes and dreams on the line only to be dashed by mismanagement, bad comp plans, copycat products and scams to sit quietly and continue to watch the same mistakes made by the next generation of excited new network marketers. As an industry we are failing. A few make millions, and most make little or nothing. Let’s change it.
I remember the day my father walked into the house with a box from Holiday Magic. The year was 1966. He said they had new, exciting products, good for the environment (yes 1966) and could help the family make more income.
In 1966, Holiday Magic out-produced Amway. The only company EVER to do so. 24 months later they were out of business. Whether it’s a company like Holiday Magic or Enron, you have to be able to recognize the symptoms, and avoid the heartbreak.
My networking career started in 1979 with a small company out of Utah called Meadowfresh. As the old Bob Seger song goes, “Wish I didn’t know now, what I didn’t know then”!
I’ll make this short and sweet. Do not join any company that does not have the following ingredients.
1. A Product that is totally unique, one of a kind and patented.
2. A product that every living soul needs.
3. A product that when understood, everyone wants.
4. The company MUST be well funded and the owners financially secure.
5. The company MUST be in the hands of experienced, competent management that is more focused on Principles and Purpose than on Ego and Economics.
6. A company on the upswing of their growth curve.
Let’s look at each one.
1. A Product that is totally unique, one of a kind and patented.
First, if the product is easily copied, then it will be copied…or already has been. Would you rather buy Noni, Acai, Pomegranate, Gogi or any other exotic juice from the distributor down the street for $30 a bottle, or from the store at $6? Yeah I know, OUR juice is special. Right. But I’ll bet you 9 to 1 that it is pasteurized. Go look at what THAT does to your products efficacy. Your body is NOT deficient in any of those juices. When the next berry is discovered deeper in the Amazon than the last, everyone will jump to that new one, sure as I’m sitting here. It is simply not a long term business model that works. The juice company will eventually lose market and be forced to introduce other products.
How about coffee? That’s unique. There are at least 7 different herbal or ganoderma coffee MLM companies to choose from. And hundreds of non MLM’s. That’s what I call competition. Most coffee lovers I know, love coffee, and this stuff may be really good for you, but it just doesn’t taste like coffee.
Telecommunications? Both Sprint and MCI started out as networking companies and decided to leave those downline payments behind and go to traditional media sales techniques. Network 2000 (Sprint) was sued and some reps were awarded millions. MCI simply took over everyone’s’ accounts and made them “house accounts” after a couple years. Nice reward for all your efforts. There is simply no future long term business success in my opinion with any technology MLM. It will be short lived and quickly copied by the big boys.
Diet products: Ok..That is something that…if it works…can generate some long term success. BUT today there are SO many. AND you are competing with the TV ones too. Nutrisystem, Medifast, HCG and other products that are clinically proven to work for weight loss. It’s a tough market if you aren’t already established. If it doesn’t work, and work fast then you are out of business and not making money. The little "Lose Weight Now, ASK me How" button just doesn’t work like it used to. Too much competition.
How about network bungling….er I mean bundling. You know, one company will take your money and put you in multiple MLM’s. This has been tried at least 50 times that I know of and I know of no company that has ever made it work. Why? Because there is no loyalty to the product. This is a KEY to remember. If you are not loyal to your product, so loyal in fact that you not only use it every day yourself, but you are unafraid, in fact motivated by the fact that people will suffer if you don’t share it, then you have the wrong product, and the wrong company.
2. A product that every living soul needs.
Is the product you’re looking at NEEDED by everyone? Will Everyone benefit, without the risk of anyone being harmed? Some people can’t use the juices, some can’t drink coffee. Getting someone to switch their long distance or cell phone service is tougher than getting my kid to go to the dentist. Not everyone needs to lose weight. I think you get the point.
3. A product that when understood, everyone wants.
You must ask yourself, “Do most of my friends, relatives and neighbors WANT this product?" Would you buy it, and continue to buy it if you couldn’t make a dime selling it? REALLY? Think about it. This is a BUSINESS you are going to start, not a HOBBY.
4. The company MUST be well funded.
I started a company about 20 years ago with less than $20,000. We almost made it work. Note the word almost. Today, it takes a couple million to successfully start an MLM. Note the word successfully. Not only do you need the money to set up the product, distribution, offices, customer service, websites, software, legal, training, travel, conventions, sales materials, and video’s, but the owners can’t be in a big hurry to get it all back. They can’t be broke.
5. The company MUST be in the hands of experienced, competent management that is more focused on Principles and Purpose than on Ego and Economics.
This may be the most important subject. What IS top management? Well, MOST companies are run today by people who were once distributors in another company. Maybe even the top distributor. That experience is not necessarily bad, but this is for sure: There is a HUGE difference between being a top rep, and running a successful billion dollar company. HUGE. Why do you think 98% fail? As a rep, you sell, recruit, train, motivate and manage your personal sales force. You can make $10,000 a month or more without worrying about a payroll, or distribution models. How about legal or International expansion?. Warehousing. Customer Service. Packaging. A business plan. Governmental agencies and compliance. There is so much more. PLUS you have to BE THERE every day! It’s a job. Too many owners have made the money they were looking for very quickly, bought the Lamborghinis, Rolls, Bentleys, airplanes, beach houses and even islands and destroyed the company in the process. Who knows…maybe on purpose. Then the same so called leaders come back with a new bigger and better deal and want to stick it to you all over again. No thanks. They must be experienced in the corporate world as well as the MLM world, or surround themselves with people who are. Egos must be in check. WHY are they doing this? Self enrichment, or are they truly motivated to help people and have a purpose? Ask to see their mission statement and their vision statement. Ask to see the business plan for the next 5 years. Google them! This is your money, your time, your dreams and your life. Do your due diligence and don’t be taken.
6. A company on the upswing of their growth curve.
There are quite a few companies out there that are very successful and solid. Herbalife, Amway, NuSkin, Avon and Mary Kay come to mind. When people join those companies today, the opportunity is mostly direct sales to personal friends and associates who may never have heard of the company or are just buying from you as a favor. It would be a rare find indeed to come across someone who has never heard of the Herbalife or Amway business model. It is a very tough business to recruit to because everyone has heard of it. Their growth curve peaked years ago and they are not growing fast enough to create the excitement you need to create. You would never be able to recruit a seasoned network marketer into this type of company. You are much better off finding a company on the way up and "catching the wave" so to speak. It is much easier to ride a new wave than one that has already been ridden and crashed on the beach. The trick is to find a company on the way up, that will provide a long profitable wave that will not crash early. You don't want to hitch a ride on the next 12 month shooting star. That is the pupose of this site. It is to increase your odds and limit the chances of choosing the failure.
Just as a side: Do YOU have a mission statement? A vision statement? A one, three and five year business plan? You definitely should. This is your business, your opportunity, your future. You should take that very seriously. If you treat MLM as a hobby, you’ll make hobby money. Treat is like the serious business it really is, and it can set you free.
I applaud you for taking the entrepreneurial plunge. MLM is the average person’s (and even the above average person’s) best chance to become financially independent without risking a lot of money or their current position. If you have a job KEEP IT! Never buy so much into the hype that you risk everything. That’s just not smart. But DO get involved. Hitch your wagon to someone that has done it before. Someone who has built a successful organization and is willing to help you. Your sponsor is really not that important. Go with the person who introduced you to the company. Loyalty, integrity and self esteem are more important. Never have I seen someone cut out their inviter, go around them to the “heavy hitter” to be sponsored, and then become successful. I don’t know whether it’s guilt, or just the fact that you must do a “right thing in a right way” to be really successful. I’ve had people go around me…it will happen…but it is never pleasant and never EVER works. If your sponsor’s sponsor isn’t willing or able, just continue upline until you find the person who is properly motivated to work with you. They should be motivated not only to help you and the company grow, but they should be motivated financially by the commission structure to do so. If they say the commission structure doesn’t pay them to do that….then you have the wrong company.
This site will continue to grow as I publish more information, insight and training. Stay tuned for Chapter TWO!
